After six years of heavy use, this drill would have been still going strong if it wasn't for a few things.
First, never, ever, tighten the chuck down with one hand, like you can with one-sleeve chucks. A co-worker of mine borrowed this drill and tried doing so, repeatedly, and the chuck made horrible grinding noises as the rear sleeve and the front sleeve worked against each other. The chuck doesn't grip well anymore. It loosens up repeatedly in the middle of easy drilling through 2x4s.
But for the six years that it did work, it worked perfectly, and with the original set of batteries, too.
Buy it and use it carefully. You will not regret it. It beats every other competitor for the price and utility, hands down.

Ordered a drill received a blower. Called Amazon was told to call Makita. Mikita said it was Amazon's fault, send blower back (my cost) MaMakita 6217DWDE 12-volt NiMH 3/8-inch Cordless Drill/Driver Kitkita will send me a drill (my cost). Called Amazon and they said they will give me credit on my next purchase to cover the cost of shipping.

I bought this drill to replace a very old Makita 9.6. I have used it for several months on a number of projects. So far I have been completely satisfied.

Just got it a couple of weeks ago. So far no problems. I got the model with the light which runs on the same battery as the drill. The light cover needs to be screwed on tightly to work properly. Best feature: the only cordless drill I could find actually made in the USA. Even if it was made in Japan as some of their models are, I'd rather give them my money than companies that ignore their conscience and give their business to China.
